Fondu, vine clad slopes and Swiss picnic's in the mountain - your next foodie adventure!

Beautiful landscapes are the backdrop for an amazing self-guided tour through Switzerland. This 8 day / 7 night journey will take you from the bustling and historic Geneva to the lakes and countryside of Switzerland.

Travel by train to experience the beauty of Switzerland. While this is a foodie adventure, there is plenty of time for sightseeing and hiking. Ensure to earn those exotic and delicious foods by being immersed in the wildflowers, blue glass waters and fresh mountain air.

Itinerary

Day 1


Arrival into Switzerland

If you haven't already arrived and spent time enjoying Geneva, upon your arrival at the airport, you will be met by a representative. They will provide you with the travel documents you will need for the next 8 days and escort you to the train.

The train will take you from Geneva through to your first lakeside city of Montreux - approximately 1 1/4 hours. Located on Lac Leman (Lake of Geneva) the city stretches along the shore of the lake. The mild climate is perfect for visitors to explore and produce many grapes used for wine-making in the region.

Day 2


Lavaux - wine tasting

Today meet your driver and take a private wine tasting tour in the Lavaux region. This region is known for wine growing in Western Switzerland. Your tour will be a half day in length and give you time to explore the paths in the region. Bread, cheese and jerky will accompany your wine tasting.

The remainder of your day is at your leisure.

Day 3


Montreux to Zermatt

Take a morning train from Montreux to Zermatt. Your will be transferred to your hotel and the rest of your day is free to explore Zermatt at your leisure.

The legendary Matterhorn is the most photographed mountain in the European Alps - take yours. Feel free to walk and breathe in the fresh air, Zermatt is a car-free village.

Day 4


Mount Rothorn and Sunnegga

After a hearty breakfast meet your guide. With your walking/hiking boots on, take the underground funicular from Zermatt to Sunnegga and onto Rothorn. Your guide will suggest appropriate hikes for your skill level. Your hiking will be rewarded with spectacular views across the whole Zermatt region. Here you will also see the artistic side of the alpine lifestyle.

Lunch will be a beautiful Swiss picnic in the middle of the mountains.

Day 5


Zermatt to Lucerne

With your own transfers, first class train experience and private chocolate tasting - this will be an enjoyable day.

Arriving into Lucerne by train you will notice it is an historical city with all of it - the lake, mountains and city. You will have today to explore Lucerne as you wish. Make time for your chocolate making and of course tasting!

Day 6


Lucerne

Today you will have at leisure in Lucerne to continue your explorations.

Organised for you this evening is a beautiful sunset dinner cruise. This 3-course dinner will fill you up after a day of exploring.

Day 7


Lucerne to Zurich via Emmental

Cheese anyone? Travel by private car from Lucerne to Emmental. Here you will enjoy the gentle hills, peaceful woods and unpolluted lakes and rivers. Visit a cheese dairy to enjoy the scrumptious Swiss cheese fondu.

To allow for the cheese to settle, jump back into your car, with driver, and continue onto Zurich. You may choose to stop somewhere along the way to stretch the legs and enjoy the beautiful landscapes.

Day 8


Departure day

Do you need time to explore Zurich? Consider extending your tour. If time is no longer available, today you will depart Zurich and head home.
